NIFA Meeting: NRCS Forestry Programs

  • February 13, 2018
  • 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM
  • Stockton Public Library

The Northwest Illinois Forestry Association will host Paul Searl. Jo Daviess County Natural Resource and Conservation Service soil conservationist, for its Tuesday, February 13th, 7:00 pm meeting at the Stockton Public Library, 140 W Benton, Stockton.   Mr. Searl will present information regarding the forestry portion of the federal Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP).  CSP is the largest conservation program in the United Sates with more than 70 million acres of agricultural and forest land enrolled.  CSP helps reward landowners for existing conservation efforts while encouraging continued improvement through “enhancements”, or management activities that go above and beyond conservation practice standard requirements, helping the producer achieve a higher level of conservation.  Paul will touch upon how a CSP Forestry contract can compliment a Forest Management Plan and the process for enrollment in CSP.

There will be a brief NIFA business meeting to finalize the 2018 agenda before Mr. Searl’s presentation.   The public is welcome to attend and learn more about forestry in northwestern Illinois.  A special invitation is extended to young people interested in forestry and the opportunities it can provide in our area and throughout the nation.  More information about NIFA can be found at www.nifatrees.org.
