  • September 08, 2018
  • 1:00 PM - 4:00 PM
  • Oakdale Nature Preserve

On Saturday September 8th, 2018, at 1:00 p.m., a tree identification workshop will be hosted by the Northwest Illinois Forestry Association at the Oakdale Nature Preserve south of Freeport.  Ken Beach, Richard Benning, and Highland Biology Instructor Alan Nowicki  will lead interested participants around the preserve identifying trees as they walk.

Oak, hickory, basswood, maple, elm, willow, walnut, and other species will be discussed.  Several species not found in the preserve will be available for identification from branches and leaves brought to the event.  Some invasive species will also be identified for you with discussions of control options.  This will be a fun interactive discussion while a leisurely stroll is taken through parts of the preserve.

The Preserve is located just off of Baileyville Road, About 3.0 miles south of Freeport, at the intersection of Cranes Grove Road.  Dress for the weather and remember your insect repellant.  The plan will be to meet near the Mogel Center.  The Northwest Illinois Forestry Association is announcing this event which is open to the public without charge.
