Carroll County: Forest Edge - Consumables,not Invasives

The edge of the forest presents an excellent place for non-native invasive plants to establish themselves and spread.  This workshop examines edge characteristics and how to take advantage of the forest edge for native fruits, nuts, and other consumables.  These methods will allow the woodland owner to create a productive forest edge; preventing invasives from getting a foothold, and providing wildlife and humans food.

The partnership of the University of Illinois Extension Service, the IDNR Division of Forestry, and the Northwest Illinois Forestry Association sponsors this workshop for woodland owners.

Presentations will begin at 9:00 am at the Naaman Diehl Auditorium behind the Carroll County Farm Bureau building.  Following a catered lunch at noon, attendees will travel a few miles to see how Wildlife Biologist Scott Schaeffer has implemented the discussed practices and plantings on his forest edges.
