NIFA will host a tour of natural forest regeneration on former timber harvest sites at the Tom and Jessica Arnold Tree Farm northeast of Elizabeth. Selective walnut harvests in 2018, 2010, and 2008 will be viewed as well as a 15 acre hardwood clear cut in winter 2011/2012 and a 4 acre hardwood clear cut in 1995. Timber management goals and implementation to be discussed. Time permitting, two neighboring properties will be viewed: an 80 acre hardwood timber clear cut done in 2010 and a direct hardwood seeding in a former crop field done in 2000.
Dress for hiking hills and probable wet conditions. Should it be raining, this tour will be rescheduled for May 18th. For day of tour confirmation or last minute changes, check out the “Events” page of www.nifatrees.org .
