Tour of Larry Priske Farm

  • north of Galena

Illinois grows some of the finest hardwoods in the nation, including black walnut, red oak, white oak, yellow poplar, ash, hickory, hard maple, and soft maple.  Approximately 4.4 million acres in Illinois are forested, or 12% of the state.  97 percent of Illinois’ forests are classified as deciduous and 3 percent classified as conifers.  If you are a private land owner considering a timber sale, you might be asking yourself some of these questions

  • What should I sell?
  • How can I get the best price for my timber?
  • Is there a best time to harvest?

The Northwest Illinois Forestry Association will be hosting a presentation on May 4th at the Larry and Sally Priske Tree Farm near Galena to address these and many other questions regarding tree harvesting. This session will be conducted by loggers Steines and Griebel of Bellevue Iowa, who have been in business for 37 years. This is a great opportunity for participants to gather information on logging from a logger's perspective. The event will start at 9:00 am and last approximately 3 hours.  The location is 4700 N. Council Hill Rd.  If traveling from Highway US 20, turn onto Main Street towards downtown Galena.  Main turns into Dewey Ave. which turns into Council Hill Rd.  Continue approximately 2 miles to the Priske Farm
