Consider attending an upcoming workshop on identifying and controlling these invasive and non-native plants. Hosted by Northwest Illinois Forestry Association (NIFA), U of I Extension, and The Department of Natural Resources the Controlling Exotic Invasives Workshop will be held on Wednesday, October 29 from 9:30am - Noon at the Whiteside County Extension Office in Morrison. Woody invasives such as Multiflora Rose, Bush Honeysuckle, Autumn Olive, and Buckthorn will be the focus of this informative workshop. Representatives from the above organizations will cover the following topics:
· What are the main, non-native, invasive species in NW Illinois
· How to identify these species, both at early and mature stages of growth
· Why and how these plant species are negatively affecting the environment
· Control methods that can be done commercially and by property owners yet this fall
· What has been done in the area most recently, and the results of these actions
· Resource available to land owners
· Question and Answer session
This workshop is free and open to the public, but the Extension asks that you register by October 27th to assure adequate seating and copies of the handout material.
