The Northwest Illinois Forestry Association will tour Johnson Creek Hardwoods, near Mount Carroll, on Saturday, October 8th, from 9 am until noon.
For almost 20 years, this facility has been producing high quality lumber for carftsmen and woodworkers. Their stock is sourced from two dozen northwestern Illinois hardwood species in their adjacent woodland. The Johnsons will show their standing timber and will lead a walk through their shop discussing how logs are cut, lumber is dried, and their emphasis on quality. The finished products are displayed in their “Board Room”. A discussion of employment opportunities in the forestry industry will follow. Directions: From Mount Carroll, go south on IL Route 78 for 2.6 miles, then (turn left) east on Timber Lake Road for 1 mile, then (turn right) south on Daggert Road for 1.5 miles to Johnson Creek Hardwoods at 6480 Daggert. This tour is open to the public; there is no charge to attend.
