This message from Brad Petersburg:
CANCELLED!
The snow on the ground this morning looks rather pretty but it nixes the potential for a prescribed burn anytime this weekend. The forecast looks better towards the end of next week. However, I have plans for Easter weekend and suspect many of you do too. So, we’ll try again sometime after Easter.
Thank you for your patience and understanding as I struggle to predict a day when the conditions will be suitable for the Woodland Prescribed Burn Field Day.
NIFA in conjunction with
will be hosting a woodland prescribed burn to demonstrate to other woodland owners and the general public the benefits and procedures in a controlled burn in a forest setting. Attendees can observe the process and learn about the preparation for such a practice.
Approximate Schedule:
12:45 Parking attendant will guide visitor parking
1:00 Intros and a brief presentation on why, how, and when to plan a woodland prescribed burn (the main purpose is to demonstrate how to safely conduct a woodland prescribed burn)
1:30 Review burn plan with team and execute prescribed burn (visitorsobserve)
4:00 Post-burn review (visitors observe, if still inattendance)
Note: The presentation and the prescribed burn will be led by Jake Pulfer, NISC Program Director. Jake is an Illinois Certified Prescribed Burn Manager
